Where each tool earns its place

Lean on Wappalyzer when

  • Your core question is which technologies an account is running right now.
  • Fast ad-hoc lookups are the job - one site, one answer, no setup.
  • A free Chrome extension covers the whole use case for your team.
  • You want the widest possible technographic coverage across many web-technology categories.

Add MarketSizer when

  • You need to know when a subscription started and when it is about to change, on top of what is running.
  • You want trial, switch, renewal and churn signals attached to each account.
  • Signals should surface alongside HubSpot, Salesforce, LinkedIn and Apollo, not in a separate lookup tool.
  • You want accounts ranked by an Opportunity Score reps can act on this week.

How MarketSizer works with Wappalyzer

Wappalyzer answers "what does this site run?" the moment you look. MarketSizer answers "whose subscription is about to change?" across the categories you sell into. One is a lens on the account in front of you; the other is a radar on the market around it.

  1. Wappalyzer reads the stack

On any site, Wappalyzer shows the technologies in place - the snapshot of what the account runs today.

  2. Turn lookups into a list

Accounts you shortlist from technographic research come into MarketSizer via CSV import as tracked accounts.

  3. MarketSizer watches for movement

Subscription events - trials, switches, approaching renewals - surface which of those accounts is actually in motion.

  4. Both live in the browser

The MarketSizer Chrome extension opens on any company website, so timing signals sit alongside your stack research as you browse.

What buyers say about the category

Themes from GTM leaders currently evaluating tools in this space.

Sellers keep Wappalyzer pinned to the toolbar for a reason: one click, instant answer, free at low volumes. The buyers we talk to are not looking to replace that. Their follow-up problem starts after the lookup - whether the subscription behind the detected tool is up for renewal, recently churned, or being benchmarked against alternatives - and that is the part a detection extension was never built to answer.

Technographic tools show me what is installed. What I cannot see is the state of the subscription behind it: is a renewal coming, did they drop something recently, what else have they looked at this year?

We have dipped in and out of half a dozen signal sources over the years, none of them consistently. What we want is one place where those signals land already joined up.

MarketSizer & Wappalyzer - frequently asked questions

How is Wappalyzer different from BuiltWith?

Both are technographic detection tools. Wappalyzer is lighter and better-known for its free Chrome extension; BuiltWith indexes a substantially larger technology catalogue and leans into bulk data. See MarketSizer and BuiltWith, compared, for the same comparison on the wider tool.

Does Wappalyzer detect competitor trials?

Not directly. Wappalyzer sees what technologies are currently deployed. It does not distinguish an active paid subscription from a two-week trial, and it does not alert when a trial starts. That is a different signal category - see How to detect competitor trials.

Can Wappalyzer and MarketSizer be used together?

Yes. Some teams use Wappalyzer for quick ad-hoc tech-stack checks and MarketSizer as the day-to-day account-prioritisation surface. The two are complementary; not a rip-and-replace.

How does Wappalyzer pricing compare with MarketSizer?

Wappalyzer has a free Chrome extension plus tiered paid plans priced per lookup volume, as published on wappalyzer.com. MarketSizer is credit-based (see current plans). Different products; different pricing shapes.
